TataSky Universal Remote Programing

Progaming Tatasky new remote controls to work with other devices

Tatasky Launched two new remote controls for Normal or HD and HD+ Recorder ( HD-PVR) set top boxes, these remotes have “Universal” key, through which one can program the remote to control other devices like TV music System etc. My Remote works with Denon AVR (Music AMP) and TV along with TataSky SBT. This is how I have done it.

Button Available for Programming is limited to these 5 Buttons

  • + Vol
  • - Vol
  • Mute
  • Help
  • Power

This how I want the system to work,

Power Button->TV Power,
+Vol & -Vol->Denon Vol,
Mute->Denon Power On and
Help Button->Demon Power Off

Note: Demon use two Button for Power-Up and Power-Down, this is normally not the case in your music system, they normally use a single button for power control, press once for up and if up the send press will power down.

Step 1: Keep the Remotes of Other Devices on hand.

Step 2: Enter Programming Mode on the TataSky Remote (SBT Remote)
Press the "Select" while keeping it Pressed Press "2" till the Led Flashes Twice

Step 3: Programing the Keys
Keep both the remotes in line as Shown in Fig

Step 4: TV Power Button
i) Press the Power Button on the STB Remote (the Led will Off) and then press the power button on the TV Remote till the SBT Led Flashes once
ii) Press the Select Button to exit the Programing Mode

Step 4: +Vol Power Button of Demon (Change the TV remote to Denon Remote)
i) Press the +Vol Button on the STB Remote (the Led will Off) and then press the +Vol Button on the Denon Remote till the SBT Led Flashes once
ii) Press the -Vol Button on the STB Remote (the Led will Off) and then press the -Vol Button on the Denon Remote till the SBT Led Flashes once
iii) Press the "Mute" Button on the STB Remote (the Led will Off) and then press the Power-ON Button on the Denon Remote till the SBT Led Flashes once
iv Press the "Help" Button on the STB Remote (the Led will Off) and then press thePower-OFF on the Denon Remote till the SBT Led Flashes once
v) Press the Select Button to exit the Programing Mode

Done; the Universal SBT remote will now work with Denon, Panasonic TV and SBT TataSky

The SBT remote will normally function with the SBT features, When you want to control the TV or Denon then press "Univ" button led will light-up now it will control the TV / Demon (in My case).

My usage is with the Vol of the SBT set to a stand point say 50% or less and the vol on the Denon is my Vol control, Its a pain to press the "Univ" and then press the Vol keys, hence I use the work around,

Step 5: Select a Music Channel or the TataSky 100 or 101 (Definitely not a Shouting Channel like TimeNow) and set the volume on your Music System to say 25%, Adjust the Vol on the SBT to 50% or less (more) so that you have a comfortable with the level of music or sound.

Step 6: Once you are comfortable, press "Select" and then Press "Univ" Button till the Led Flashes Twice.

Done now the +Vol, -Vol and Mute will work directly with the Denon instead of SBT; I don't have to change the Mode on the STB remote, Yep I still have to do it to Power-Off the Denon. but in Life you cannot have everything for INR 400 (6USD).

In Case you want to SBT remote to work the Normal Way, press "Select" and then Press "Univ" Button till the Led Flashes Twice. The +Vol, -Vol and Mute will now work with SBT.

Reset the TataSky Universal Remote
1. Press and hold Select and Blue buttons on your Tata Sky universal remote for a few seconds. The LED will blink twice.
NOTE: In newer set top boxes, you may need to press and hold Back and Blue buttons on your Tata Sky universal remote.

2. Release the buttons and press number buttons 6, 8 and 0 one by one quickly.

3. The LED will again blink twice and it’ll reset the universal remote to factory settings.

EDIT: with TataSky HD+ Transfer

TataSky now supplies a universal Remote, with the "Select" button now replaced with "Back" Button, rest of the procedure is the same.
